Guatemala FC was founded in Grand Rapids with one purpose: to develop footballers the right way. We are deliberately small, fiercely committed and unapologetic about the standards we set for our players, our coaches and our parents.
■ The Club
What began as a handful of families wanting better for their children has grown into one of West Michigan's most respected development environments. We are not here to be the biggest club in the region. We are here to be the best place a young footballer can spend their week.

For over a quarter of a century, the Mendez name has been synonymous with football in Grand Rapids. What began as a brotherhood united by the sport has become a multi-generational institution — and the cultural and competitive backbone of Guatemala FC.
Years building the game in Grand Rapids
Generations of family on the pitch
Standard-bearers for the Guatemalan-American community
The foundation of the Mendez football legacy was laid twenty-five years ago by a brotherhood that lived and breathed the game. Today, that torch has been passed to a new generation who now steward the family legacy, ensuring that the values the founders fought for — discipline, unity and competitive drive — are not diluted but deepened with every passing season.
From All-State high school careers to collegiate football, members of the family have set the standard for West Michigan players. Aldony and Alexis Mendez built their college years at Aquinas; Chris Mendez-Sanchez carried the standard forward at Davenport. At the semi-professional level, family members have anchored rosters for the Michigan Rangers FC, Muskegon Risers and Shoreline City Futsal Club, while remaining the heartbeat of the Grand Rapids Hispanic League with Grand Rapids Guatemala FC.
For the Mendez family, football has always been a vehicle for something larger. As proud standard-bearers for the Guatemalan-American community in West Michigan, they have used the sport to build cultural pride, mentorship and unity. The club you see today is the direct expression of that work — a place where the next generation is invited to chase excellence on the pitch and carry themselves with pride off it.
■ Values
Technique, intelligence and bravery on the ball. Every training session is planned, measured and reviewed.
On time. Boots ready. Mind switched on. The same expectations apply to the first session and the last.
We honour the heritage of the Guatemalan game while building a club that belongs to Grand Rapids.
Players, parents and staff move forward together. Every voice matters. Every name is known.
■ The Methodology
Our training model is built around four principles that shape every session, from the youngest age group to our most advanced players.
Repetition with intent. Players leave every session with more touches and sharper execution than they arrived with.
Scanning, decision making and positioning are coached as deliberately as passing and finishing.
Athletic development that supports a long career, not short term results.
We build players who compete with humility, lose with grace and return the next day ready to work.
Trial sessions and summer programs are open now. Spaces are intentionally limited.
